Celebrate Flag Day
Celebrate the birthday of Philadelphia's Civic Flag every March 27!

McCook The Reverend Doctor Henry C. McCook (1837-1911)

Back in 1894, Rev. Dr. Henry C. McCook wrote a letter to then mayor, Edwin S. Stuart, suggesting that Philadelphia adopt a civic flag as a means of promoting civic pride. "The display and constant use of a Philadelphia Civic Flag would act towards the strengthening of civic pride, precisely as similar use of the National Flag tends to foster a spirit of national loyalty."

McCook's efforts proved fruitful. On March 27, 1895, an official civic flag was ordained by city council, designed using drawings McCook included in his letter.

HELLO PHILADELPHIA!

Partners For Civic Pride [PFCP] is conducting our first annual appeal to support our organization's mission - to UNITE Philadelphians via their Philadelphia FLAG! The message on our Philly Flag contains four guiding principles:

 PEACE
 HOPE
 JUSTICE
 PROSPERITY

plus the city motto:

PHILADELPHIA MANETO "Let brotherly love continue!" ~What William Penn began by naming his city "Brotherly Love," we are asked to continue in a spirit of Love and Unity.

Our PFCP Programs include the production of "Philadelphia Flag Day!" every March 27th on the anniversary of our Philly Flag. This is an invitation to all Philadelphians to gather in unity to honor our FLAG and it's message, while also celebrating those individuals and groups who practice the FLAG's message in an effort to make Philly a better place for all!

PFCP presents the PHILADELPHIA MANETO AWARD(S) annually at the Philadelphia Flag Day event! Each year the Award Recipients are asked to return for the March 27th event, to honor the new Recipients. The gathering of former Recipients creates an ever-growing community of civically engaged Philadelphians who unite annually to strengthen our civic bond! We are working to establish an ENDOWMENT for this award to ensure its presentation for future generations!
